While 2010 proved to be a breakthrough year for The Gracious Gourmet, 2011 has brought about even greater possibilities with new products in the works, new awards and expanded distribution throughout the United States. The all-natural gourmet condiment producer, which marked its third year in business in November 2009, enjoyed fantastic growth and recognition in the past year and now offers a line of gourmet condiments that includes 16 inventive and easy-to-use chutneys, pestos, grilling sauces, spreads and tapenades.

Four new products joined the company's lineup, including the award-winning Dilled Carrot Tapenade, and more were unveiled at the Summer show. The Dilled Carrot Tomato Tapenade was selected as a Silver Finalist for Outstanding New Product in the 2009 sofi Awards from the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, Inc. (NASFT). The sofi Awards recognize excellence in specialty food and beverages and are a coveted industry honor. "sofi" stands for Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation. The Dilled Carrot Tomato Tapenade was one of the 128 Silver Finalists selected by a national panel of specialty food experts from 1,997 contenders across 33 categories.

The Gracious Gourmet received five new awards during the Connecticut Specialty Food Association's (CSFA) ninth-annual Product Awards Competition. The Gracious Gourmet has been honored by the CSFA in past years for other products, but 2010 brought about a second win for the Sweet Tomato Grilling Sauce, which also received an award in the Barbecue Sauce Category in 2007.

The five products awarded honors at the CSFA competition are:

• 1st Place Outstanding Pickle, Relish or Tapenade 2010 for Artichoke Parmesan Tapenade
• 2nd Place Outstanding Pickle, Relish or Tapenade 2010 for Dilled Carrot Tomato Tapenade
• 3rd Place Outstanding Pickle, Relish or Tapenade 2010 for Roasted Vegetable Tapenade
• 1st Place Outstanding Savory Condiment 2010 for Gingered Peach Apricot Spread
• 3rd Place Outstanding BBQ Sauces 2010 for Sweet Tomato Grilling Sauce

"We are honored to be awarded prizes from the CFSA for our tapenades, spread and grilling sauce," says Nancy Wekselbaum, founder and owner of The Gracious Gourmet. "Our flavor profiles are unique and draw inspiration from many culinary traditions. The CSFA does a wonderful job in promoting and supporting Connecticut made products." Wekselbaum, a passionate lover of food and cooking, started The Gracious Gourmet in November 2006 after a friend encouraged her to sell the chutney she was making at home.

More than 230 specialty food items from Connecticut-based manufacturers competed in 20 categories during the judging. A panel of 30 judges consisting of local media personalities, food writers and chefs from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture's Farm-to-Chef Program scored products on overall taste, originality, variety, and flavor.
